Job Title: Construction Controller

Location: Tampa, FL

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

About the Company:

We are working with one of Tampa's leaders in Sitework Civil Contracting. They specialize in delivering complex projects with a focus on safety, quality, and financial excellence.

Position Summary:

The Construction Controller will oversee all financial operations of the company, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, job cost reporting, and financial analysis. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supports strategic decision-making, and maintains compliance with company policies and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and job cost reports.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets.
  • Oversee project billing, change orders, and subcontractor payments to ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Partner with project managers and executives to review project performance, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Manage annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors and financial institutions.
  • Monitor cash flow and prepare cash management reports.
  • Implement and improve accounting systems
  • Supervise and mentor accounting team members.
  • Support strategic initiatives such as cost optimization, ERP integration, and financial planning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Minimum 4–10 years of progressive accounting experience , with at least 3–4 years in construction industry accounting.
  • Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting , WIP reporting , and job cost accounting .
  • Experience with construction ERP/accounting software
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
