This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 10% of base salary.

The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer II, STRS on the Investment Operations team.

Investment Operations provides operational services and oversight across all asset classes of the Investments Branch. This includes pre-settlement and post-trade portfolio controls, trade and cash flow management, portfolio setup and onboarding, and total fund reporting. Additionally, the team serves as a control function to protect the total plan and mitigate operational and custodial risk.

Under the general direction of the Associate Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer II provides a high-level of investment and financial expertise to staff and management, works on the operational complexities in reviewing the CalSTRS’ Investment Portfolio, and performs a wide range of analytical and technical work to support the critical functions of Investment Operations. The incumbent is responsible for performing complex duties requiring a high degree of independence, confidentiality, creativity, and discretionary judgement.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills :

  • BA/BS/MBA or possession of an advanced degree in finance, accounting or other related fields
  • Ability to utilize advanced Microsoft applications such as Excel Visual Basics and Power BI
  • Experience with Investment Securities
  • Experience with US and Non-US corporate action processing
  • Experience with reconciliations
  • Experience working with investment/accounting software platforms such as Solovis, Bloomberg, etc.
  • Ability to meet deadlines that are non-negotiable
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and work effectively under pressure
  • Enjoys working with data and numbers
  • Team player with a strong work ethic, high integrity, and desire to learn
  • Strong customer service people skills
  • Analytical, detail-oriented and precise with numbers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • CFA designation or other professional certification such as CAIA

An incumbent who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

CalSTRS Personal Trading Program

Investment Branch employees are required to participate in the CalSTRS Personal Trading Program which allows CalSTRS to monitor employees’ personal trading transactions in order to reduce risks associated with insider trading, front running, and misusing material non-public information. Upon accepting a position within the Investment Branch, you will be required to disclose your personal broker account information and be required to utilize a personal broker from a designated list as provided by CalSTRS.


Background Investigation

Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a  Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.

CalSTRS Disclosure Requirements

This position may be subject to disclosure and disqualification requirements concerning economic conflict of interest in government work, including the  Conflict of Interest Code that applies to CalSTRS team members and the  Political Reform Act , which require disclosure of certain investment information and use of a designated trading platform for securities transactions, as well as filing a  Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) .
