As such, we seek a VP, Strategy & Business Development for our newly created Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) business division. This ambitious and high-profile role provides a compelling opportunity to be part of a team focused on growth strategies, planning, and execution in the digital learning space. This is an opportunity to build something from its infancy that is at the core of Pearson’s strategic pivot toward engaging directly with consumers. What You Will Do: Partner closely with the Co-Presidents of DTC and their teams to develop business strategies and plans that both shape and support the overall business of the division. Align with the corporate strategy & finance teams to create financial models and scenarios to support new and ongoing business planning and modeling. Maintain a strong pulse on market trends, competition, and consumer feedback. Analyze market research and data to develop and strengthen business cases and scenarios. Commission research where necessary. Understand and define existing and potential consumer segments: demographics, psychographics, behaviors. Articulate ongoing market dynamics and strategies, identifying Pearson’s place in that along with challenges and opportunities. Play a key role in crafting Pearson’s DTC overall business narrative and story. There will be elements of Partnership development (still TBC) which could for example be in the space of content licensing and acquisition. As this is a brand-new opportunity, you will need to be both resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity, as you will shape this role over time. You will be a strong collaborator, working cross-functionally with other divisions within the company to drive the DTC business forward. What You Will Bring: A strategic, passionate, forward-thinking, results-oriented individual with exceptional discipline. You are a critical thinker with a mindset towards growth and you readily embrace ongoing change in consumer behaviors and technology. You have a high level of curiosity, resourcefulness, and energy and are able to create clarity while incorporating multiple inputs. You are entrepreneurial in spirit, yet able to work in a complex corporate organization. 7 years experience in business strategy, consulting and/or go-to-market strategies. Proven experience and ability to advise and influence key executives and senior stakeholders across an organization, ranging from research to marketing to product to engineering teams. Deep understanding of consumer-facing businesses, preferably in the content or digital space. Familiarity with and ability to identify key insights, assimilating them into thoughtful strategies and executable plans. Thrive in dynamic environments while able to maintain focus on priorities. Ability to creatively deliver seamless end-to-end consumer journeys, while managing P&L accountability and driving solid returns. Superior verbal and written communication skills, and a high comfort level with both large and small groups. Preferred Attributes: Background and experience in data-driven businesses.
